Water Heater Repair/ Replacement

In order to have a constant supply of hot water, a water heater tank is needed. This is true for both homes and businesses. There are different types of water heaters available that individuals can get. Most homes and businesses will have water heater tanks. The tankless water heaters are becoming a popular choice since they save a lot of room in smaller homes or businesses.

The tankless water heaters will only heat up the water as it is being used, instead of storing water like a tank does. Water heater tanks will usually last up to 20 years, and that is one main reason why they are used. The tankless water heaters may require less maintenance and save homeowners money for being energy efficient, but they have to be replaced every ten to 13 years.

Tips On Maintaining Your Water Heater

No matter if the water heater tank is gas or electric, they will need to have some maintenance done to them in order to ensure they will last. The maintenance required only takes a few minutes to do, and it should be done yearly. Here are the steps needed to maintain a water heater tank:

First, turn down the temperature of the tank to 115 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This will help ensure the tank will not overheat, and it will use less energy to reheat the water after the maintenance.

Next, you will need to test your temperature and pressure relief valve.

1. You will need to lift up the lever for the temperature and pressure relief valve partly and then let go of it. It should snap back right away to it’s position.

2. Once the lever snaps back, you should hear a gurgling sound. The sound is from water that was released into the drain tube.

3. If there was no sound heard, this is a sign that the temperature and pressure relief valve needs to be replaced.

The Final Maintenance Tip is to do a Mini-Flush.

1. Be sure to place a bucket under the drain valve in order to start the mini-flush of the tank.

2. Drain water from the valve into the bucket. Just fill the bucket up and then turn off the valve. Be sure to dump the bucket out.
